Tom Yuen put up a slide on the Ten Worlds. He quoted level 6 as Humanity and level 8 as Animality.
Why is humanity above animality? An animal always behave as what it is. However a human does not always behaves as what a human expect to. S/he can be a Bodhisattva or an Animal at anytime.
From the last statement, here is where I am enlighten about the words of Buddha.
In the words of Buddha, an animal will be further away from Buddhahood when compared to a human. A human is in between Buddhahood and Animality and hence can move either way. Hence if you are an animal, one may perceived that one will have to pass through humanity to reach Buddhahood. I am open to this thought.
It is possible to attain Buddhahood when human as Buddha has proven. As a human, one can get closet to Buddhahood via the higher levels like Learning, Realization etc. Equally one can downgrade oneself to an animal if one spend most of their lives behaving like an animal. Climbing is difficult but possible and dropping is easy but dangerous.
